1. Plantar Fasciitis ???
Firstly, what is Plantar Fasciitis? Well its a structural band of fascia similar to a ligament across the bottom of your foot from the heel to toes. Importantly it is under 3 layers of muscle tissue and helps with support of the foot and body. Its Painful due to been damaged, most commonly on the heel where 90% of your foot pressure is. The damage in most cases gets worse over time, resulting in increased pain and damage. The focus is to repair the damaged fascia to enable you to be plantar fasciitis and pain free! This is done by targeting the route cause of the issue the damaged fascia.
4. Short Walks - Long Walks
Walking even short distances is painful, let alone long distances. You have altered your lifestyle to accommodate the pain and changes, more online shopping or limited activity. Altering how you walk and move, will enable you to stop damaging your fascia more, and start the healing process. The way you alter walking movement, starts with a 3 to 6 minute walk test depending on the initial level of pain. Then walking needs to be broken down to smaller movements of focus to highlight required changes. Once you can do all the small changes they are brought together to help you walk short distances initially and progressing onto longer distances with progressive magnitude changes.
2. What do you need to change?
Secondly what do I need to change? You like me would google what's wrong. Then be bombarded with information on insoles, footwear, devices and movements from You Tube and the internet. Some of this can help, some not, Insoles for instance can help if you stand for long periods of time, but they act as a crutch and make your foot weaker. Movements on YouTube tend to focus on ankle movement and stretching the achilles. This is fine in principle, but, tend to be too aggressive with plantar fasciitis. Crucially it how move and particularly how you stand and walk which will have the greatest impact.
5. Other Movements
Other movements are difficult and painful, tending to be avoided. Stairs are a obvious challenge, along with household chores to gardening and doing out door activities or sports. 3. Standing
Standing is painful I assume, particularly first thing in the morning and after you have been sitting for some time. When you stand up its up to 7 times body weight pressure on your heel, that's why its so painful first thing in the morning {bare feet as well). Standing from rest is also painful particularly after sitting for some time. Altering how you stand from sitting and standing in general will help the fascia heal and limit further damage.
